9 Reasons Your Supermarket Application Gets Rejected

The situational judgement test rejects more people than the interview

The short online test looks casual and decides most outcomes. It presents workplace scenarios and asks what you would do first, or asks you to rate several responses.

The scoring is not looking for the cleverest answer. It rewards consistency with two things: the customer is helped, and the rule or procedure is followed. Answers that involve solving the problem yourself by bending a rule score badly, as do answers that pass everything to a manager without doing anything.

Be consistent across the test. Personality sections repeat the same trait in different wording specifically to catch people who are answering as they think the employer wants. Contradicting yourself flags the application.

Don't rush it, but don't agonise either. Completing it on a phone during a commute is where most careless answers come from.

If you fail, note that most large retailers lock you out from reapplying for a set period, typically six months, so treat the first attempt as the real one.
