Transport Planner
We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join a busy and fast-paced logistics operation. This role is responsible for the effective planning and coordination of UK and European transport movements, ensuring vehicles, drivers and trailers are utilised efficiently while delivering excellent customer service and maintaining compliance with transport legislation.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate daily transport operations across the UK and Europe.
Allocate vehicles, trailers and drivers to meet customer requirements and operational priorities.
Maximise fleet utilisation and minimise empty mileage through proactive planning.
Monitor daily transport activities and respond to delays, breakdowns and schedule changes.
Maintain regular communication with drivers, customers, shipping companies and internal teams.
Coordinate export and import transport arrangements, including ferry bookings.
Ensure transport plans comply with drivers' hours, working time regulations, ADR requirements and company procedures.
Manage transport documentation, including Proof of Delivery (PODs) and driver worksheets.
Work closely with the workshop team to coordinate vehicle servicing and maintenance schedules.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to operational reporting and KPI monitoring.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and customer service.
About You
Previous experience in a Transport Planner or similar logistics role.
Strong understanding of UK transport operations and logistics.
Good geographical knowledge of the UK and European transport networks.
Knowledge of drivers' hours and working time regulations; Driver CPC qualification is advantageous.
Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with transport management systems is beneficial.
Proactive, customer-focused and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
