The Opportunity
An experienced Engineering Manager is required to join a major EPC infrastructure project involving the delivery of a new gas turbine compressor facility as part of a significant UK energy decarbonisation programme.
Reporting to the Project Technical Director, you will provide leadership, assurance, and accountability for all engineering activities across the project lifecycle, from detailed design and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover.
This role offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams on a complex, safety-critical project within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities act as the contractor's technical authority, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, compliant, buildable, and aligned with programme and commercial objectives.
Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation, process, and gas systems disciplines.Manage engineering interfaces between design consultants, vendors, construction teams, client representatives, and specialist stakeholders.Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, client specifications, and UK gas regulations.Oversee engineering activities associated with live operational high-pressure gas assets.Lead design assurance and safety reviews, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, constructability reviews, and risk assessments.Provide technical oversight of subcontracted design organisations and OEM/vendor packages.Support construction teams by resolving technical issues and managing engineering change processes.Assess technical changes and their impacts on safety, cost, quality, and programme.Support commissioning, testing, and handover activities, ensuring all engineering deliverables and documentation are completed to the required standard.Promote a culture of technical excellence, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, Lead Project Engineer, or Senior Engineering Lead within large-scale EPC projects.Strong background in regulated, safety-critical industries such as gas transmission, energy, process plant, petrochemical, utilities, or heavy industrial infrastructure.Demonstrable experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex technical interfaces.Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline.Chartered Engineer status or equivalent industry experience.Strong understanding of design management, vendor integration, construction engineering, and commissioning processes.Experience with process piping systems, mechanical plant, civil and structural works, and control systems.Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office and engineering management systems.Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
High-pressure gas infrastructure projects.Compressor stations, process plants, energy generation, or transmission assets.NEC contract environments and engineering change management processes.Experience working alongside Principal Designers and EPC delivery organisations.
